  • Am Cafe, Hong Teh Cantonese restaurant and Espresso cafe

Essentials

Ambassador Hotel Bangkok is a large mid-range hotel at 171 Sukhumvit Soi 11, with 760 rooms in two wings, the Square Wing and the Sky Wing. The hotel’s website puts the BTS about 5 minutes on foot away and the MRT about 10 minutes away. Listings name BTS Nana as the station.

Soi 11 is a nightlife lane of bars and restaurants running off Sukhumvit Road, so the walk to the station is lively in the evening. From Nana, the BTS reaches the Asok interchange with the MRT in one stop.

Overview

The two wings are different products, so the wing matters more than the room name. The Sky Wing is the tall block: its Superior rooms are 35 m2, Superior Suites 65 m2 and Privilege Suites 70 m2, and the Privilege rooms are on the top floors, from the 22nd to the 26th, with skyline views. The Square Wing has the Standard rooms plus the Amtel and VIP Suites, and the hotel lists no sizes for them. The Nana and Asok hotel comparison sets the hotel against its neighbours and repeats the wing advice.

Short stays where position and facilities count more than design fit well here, and so do groups who need several room types in one building. Anyone after a quiet, small hotel will find the size and the Soi 11 setting lively.

Tip: Name the wing in your booking, not just the room type, and ask for a Sky Wing room on a high floor away from the soi if you sleep lightly.

Food and drink

Am Cafe

Am Cafe is the all-day restaurant, with an international buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is the straightforward place for breakfast when you do not want to walk Soi 11.

Hong Teh

Hong Teh is the Chinese restaurant, focused on Cantonese flavours, and the hotel says it has been cooking Chinese food for over 40 years. It suits a sit-down dinner with a group.

Espresso

Espresso is the cafe on the ground floor overlooking the Ambassador Bird’s Park, with pastries and drinks. The hotel also runs AmInBox, a delivery menu of hotel dishes.

Amenities

The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness centre and a sauna. Parking, including bus parking, and a laundry service are listed, and airport transfer is available on request.

The hotel lists wheelchair-accessible facilities without further detail. In a building of this size, ask whether your wing has a step-free route from lobby to room and where the lifts are in relation to your floor.

Where to stay

Pick the area before the hotel

Traffic and heat make Bangkok distances feel longer than they look on a map, so the area shapes a trip more than the hotel does. Our guides match areas to trip types and explain the trade-offs.
