Essentials
Grand China Hotel is a high-rise on Yaowarat Road with 146 rooms, according to the hotel’s website. It sits in the middle of Chinatown’s gold and food street, with Sampeng wholesale market about 2 minutes away on foot and the Yaowarat strip about 3 minutes.
The hotel’s website gives about 5 minutes to Wat Mangkon MRT, so the Blue Line is a short walk, and about 50 minutes by road to Suvarnabhumi Airport. The Chao Phraya is also close, and some rooms face it.
Overview
The size is the point: a tall building on a street of low shophouses, so the upper rooms rise above the noise and the signs. The website lists Superior rooms in City View or River View versions, with king or twin beds, plus a triple, Deluxe rooms with balconies, Junior Suites, family suites for five or six people at 65 m2, and a range of suites with jacuzzis. River View rooms and suites are the ones to look at if the view matters.
It works as a Chinatown base if you want a modern tower rather than a heritage building. It is a poorer match if you want a quiet street, since Yaowarat Road is busy at all hours; the narrower lanes of Talad Noi and Song Wat are a walk away.
For the other Yaowarat names, hotels in Chinatown, Pratunam and the old city sets this one beside ASAI and Hotel Royal.
Tip: Ask for a River View room on a high floor: it puts the most distance between you and the street, and it adds the river to the view.
Food and drink
Sky View 360
The revolving restaurant is the hotel’s signature, with a slowly turning floor and panoramic city views. It suits a special dinner or a first night when you want the whole of Chinatown laid out below you, and you should expect a long, slow meal because of the rotation.
Siang Ping Loh Restaurant
A long-running Yaowarat restaurant inside the hotel. The hotel’s website also mentions a Chinese and Thai restaurant, an international buffet and a dim sum refectory among its six outlets.
GenZ Bar & Bistro
A rooftop bar on the 17th floor, and the more casual choice for a drink above the street. Ratchawong Street Food, an air-conditioned food court beside Ratchawong Road, gives you local dishes without leaving the building.
Amenities
There is a swimming pool and a fitness centre. Room service, free high-speed Wi-Fi and parking are listed, and a Grand China shopping mall is attached to the building.
For a longer stay the combination of pool, gym and mall under one roof means a rainy afternoon is easy to fill. Ask the hotel about laundry when you book.

Where to stay
Pick the area before the hotel
Traffic and heat make Bangkok distances feel longer than they look on a map, so the area shapes a trip more than the hotel does. Our guides match areas to trip types and explain the trade-offs.
