Delhi Bangkok Flight and Five Other India Routes Compared

Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai and Ahmedabad to Bangkok: nonstop airlines, flight times, which airport you land at, and baggage and entry notes.

A Delhi Bangkok flight takes about 4 hours 20 to 30 minutes nonstop, and Air India, IndiGo and Thai Airways all fly it. The same is true, with different carriers and times, from Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata. Ahmedabad also has direct flights, but fewer. This guide compares the six routes by airline, flight time and arrival airport, then covers baggage and the entry steps to check before you fly. Prices are not tabulated here because fares move daily; fare samples appear only in the Delhi and Bangalore sections.

All schedule figures below come from airline-schedule and fare-comparison listings read on 9 October 2026. Frequencies and times change by season, so treat them as a guide to what exists, and confirm the current timetable with the airline before you book.

Which Indian city has the shortest flight to Bangkok?

Kolkata does, at roughly 2 hours 25 minutes to 3 hours depending on the source. Chennai follows at about 3 hours 20 to 45 minutes, then Bangalore, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai, which fall between about 3 hours 45 minutes and 4 hours 50 minutes.

From Nonstop airlines listed Typical time Arrival airport
Delhi Air India, IndiGo, Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia X 4 h 20 min to 4 h 30 min Suvarnabhumi (BKK), Thai AirAsia X to Don Mueang (DMK)
Mumbai IndiGo, Air India, Thai Airways, Thai Vietjet 4 h to 4 h 45 min Check per flight
Bangalore Thai Airways, IndiGo, Air India Express 3 h 45 min to 4 h 50 min Check per flight
Kolkata IndiGo, Thai Airways, others 2 h 25 min to 3 h Check per flight
Chennai Thai Airways, IndiGo, Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air 3 h 20 min to 3 h 45 min BKK or DMK by airline
Ahmedabad Thai AirAsia, Thai Airways, Thai Lion Air, Thai VietJet 4 h 10 min to 4 h 25 min Check per flight

Source figures differ by a few minutes between aggregators, and the return direction is often listed slightly longer. India runs on UTC+5:30 and Thailand on UTC+7, so Bangkok clocks are 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of yours.

Delhi to Bangkok: three full-service and low-cost options

Delhi has the deepest choice. Listings show Thai Airways at about 22 weekly nonstop flights, Air India at about 21 weekly on Airbus A320neo aircraft, and IndiGo at about 14 weekly on the A321neo. Listed flight times run from about 4 hours 20 minutes to 4 hours 30 minutes.

Thai AirAsia X also flies Delhi to Bangkok, but into Don Mueang rather than Suvarnabhumi, with listed times of about 4 hours 5 minutes to 4 hours 30 minutes depending on direction. SpiceJet appears as a nonstop operator in some schedules.

Connecting itineraries exist, for example through Varanasi at about 6.5 hours in one guide, but they only make sense when the fare saving is large. One fare site showed a low sample one-way fare of INR 7,282 on Thai AirAsia X for some dates, which should be read as the cheapest end of the range, not a typical price.

Because three airlines share the same airport and a similar duration, the choice usually comes down to departure time, fare type and whether you want a checked bag included. The baggage section below covers that.

Mumbai to Bangkok: IndiGo, Air India and Thai Airways

A flight from Mumbai to Bangkok takes about 4 to 4 hours 45 minutes, and sources disagree on the exact figure. Bangkok-to-Mumbai listings show IndiGo at about 19 flights a week (4 hours 28 minutes), Thai Airways at 9 a week (4 hours 30 minutes) and Air India at 13 a week (4 hours 43 minutes). Another route page lists IndiGo at 4 hours 40 minutes from Mumbai to Suvarnabhumi, and Thai Vietjet also appears on the route.

One source notes that departures from Mumbai can be from either Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport or Navi Mumbai International Airport. Check the departure airport printed on your ticket.

Bangalore to Bangkok: three nonstop carriers

Bangalore to Bangkok flights run about 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours 50 minutes depending on the airline and the listing. The route distance is 2,476 km. Thai Airways is listed with one daily nonstop, IndiGo with a nonstop that one aggregator puts at about 18 flights a week, and Air India Express as a nonstop operator at about 3 hours 45 minutes.

Air India itself did not show a nonstop on this route in the sources checked, only a connection via Mumbai. If you want the Air India brand, expect a stop.

For a price anchor, a fare site reported a typical IndiGo fare of INR 15,934 and a median Thai Airways fare of INR 31,519 on this route, based on observed bookings as of 29 July 2026. The gap reflects full-service versus low-cost pricing, and both figures will have moved since.

Kolkata to Bangkok: the shortest hop

The Kolkata Bangkok flight is the quickest of the six, with estimates between 2 hours 25 minutes and 3 hours and most pages clustering around 2 hours 40 to 50 minutes. IndiGo and Thai Airways are listed as nonstop operators, Thai Airways with one daily flight. Route pages also list Bhutan Airlines, SpiceJet, Thai Vietjet and FlexFlight.

Chennai to Bangkok: two airports, four airlines

The Chennai Bangkok flight takes about 3 hours 20 to 45 minutes, and the route is split between Bangkok’s two airports. Thai Airways and IndiGo each fly one daily nonstop into Suvarnabhumi, listed at about 3 hours 40 minutes. Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air fly to Don Mueang, listed at 3 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours 45 minutes, and a Thai Lion Air listing shows a start date of 2 September 2026.

One fare page lists a longer IndiGo time of 4 hours 19 minutes, which does not match the other sources and is probably a data quirk.

The arrival airport matters because the two airports differ in ground access. Suvarnabhumi is east of the city with a direct rail link, while Don Mueang is north of the city with no direct rail link and relies mostly on road transport. See airport to city in Bangkok before you pick a fare, because a cheaper ticket into Don Mueang can cost more in ground transport and time.

Ahmedabad to Bangkok: direct, but not on IndiGo

An Ahmedabad Bangkok flight is direct on several Thai-based carriers, with times of about 4 hours 10 to 25 minutes. Thai AirAsia is listed on flight FD145 at four days a week in one source, with a trip.com listing of 4 hours 5 minutes outbound and 4 hours 35 minutes on the return. Thai Airways is listed with a daily TG344 in one source, and Thai Lion Air and Thai VietJet Air also appear.

IndiGo does not show a direct flight here. Its Ahmedabad itineraries are all one-stop, for example via Kolkata or Hyderabad, with total travel times from roughly 13 hours 20 minutes to 24 hours. If you are used to IndiGo’s network, this is the one route in this guide where a direct flight means a different airline.

How do you choose between airlines and airports?

Start from what your ticket must do, then check the airport and fare type.

  • Fastest door to door: Kolkata or Chennai if you live near either, since the listed flight time is shorter than from Delhi or Mumbai.
  • Most choice of airline: Delhi and Mumbai, where full-service and low-cost carriers share the same route.
  • Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang: Thai Airways and IndiGo listings from Chennai point to Suvarnabhumi. Thai AirAsia X, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air listings point to Don Mueang. Confirm the arrival airport on the booking page, not just the city name.
  • Connections: Only worth it when the fare gap is large, because the extra hours add up. Ahmedabad on IndiGo shows how extreme it can get.

If you are travelling for longer than a holiday, for example to work remotely, the Bangkok guide for Indian digital nomads covers the move itself, which affects how much baggage you will want to carry on the flight.

What baggage can you take on flights from India to Bangkok?

IndiGo’s own baggage page lists a 20 kg checked allowance per person for Bangkok, depending on the sector, plus one handbag up to 7 kg and 115 cm (length plus width plus height) and a personal item up to 3 kg. The 15 kg figure that many travellers remember applies to domestic IndiGo flights. Some IndiGo fare types include no checked bag at all, so check the fare type before paying.

For Air India economy, sources list a 7 kg cabin bag (55 x 40 x 20 cm) and a personal item up to 3 kg. For the checked bag, check the Air India fare rules for your bundle; booking aggregators say about 20 kg in economy. One summary gives a handling limit of 32 kg for any single piece.

Third-party sites give a spread of 20 to 30 kg for the same route, so the only reliable number is the one shown for your fare at checkout and on your e-ticket.

What do you need to enter Thailand from India?

Every traveller should complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 72 hours before arrival, whichever visa route applies to them. Do it before you leave for the airport.

The visa-free stay for Indian passport holders has been changing in 2026, and sources conflict. Reports from mid-2026 describe a 60-day exemption being withdrawn by a Thai Cabinet decision on 19 May 2026 and a 30-day exemption approved in July, with new rules applying 15 days after publication in the Royal Gazette. A guide dated 16 June 2026 said the 60-day exemption was still in force at the border. If the exemption is not available to you, the alternatives reported are a visa on arrival of up to 15 days for THB 2,000 (about USD 60 at 33.40 THB per USD, rate dated 30 September 2026) or a tourist e-visa applied for in advance at thaievisa.go.th.

Because the rule can change between booking and flying, confirm it with the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi or the e-visa portal before you travel, and read Thailand visa exemption versus tourist visa for how the two systems differ. This page is general information, not immigration advice.

Quick checklist before you book

  1. Pick the route and note the arrival airport (Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang).
  2. Compare full-service and low-cost fares, and see what each fare includes for checked baggage.
  3. Check the current timetable on the airline’s own site, since frequencies are seasonal.
  4. Confirm your entry status for your passport close to the travel date.
  5. Complete the TDAC within 72 hours of arrival.

Pick the area before the hotel

Traffic and heat make Bangkok distances feel longer than they look on a map, so the area shapes a trip more than the hotel does. Our guides match areas to trip types and explain the trade-offs.
