Bangkok Hospital vs BDMS: Which One Do You Need?
Bangkok Hospital HQ on Soi Soonvijai 7, how BDMS, BNH and Samitivej fit together, the 24-hour hotline, and a THB 40,000 check-up (2026).

On this page
“Bangkok Hospital” means three different things: one flagship hospital at 2 Soi Soonvijai 7 off New Petchburi Road (the headquarters, also called Bangkok General Hospital), a brand with 25+ hospitals across Thailand, and the parent group Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS) that also owns Samitivej, BNH, Phyathai and Paolo. For a foreign patient in Bangkok, the practical answer is the headquarters campus: it has an International Service Center with interpreters in 20+ languages, a 24-hour hotline (1719 or +66-2-310-3000) and a long list of specialist centres on one site. This guide separates the names, then covers what the headquarters offers, one dated check-up price, and when another hospital fits better.
What do “Bangkok Hospital”, “BDMS” and “Bangkok Dusit” mean?
The names overlap, which is why searches such as “bangkok general hospital”, “bangkok dusit hospital” and “bdms bangkok hospital” land on the same few pages.
| Name | What it is |
|---|---|
| Bangkok Hospital (headquarters) | The flagship hospital at 2 Soi Soonvijai 7, New Petchburi Road, Huai Khwang, Bangkok 10310. Wikipedia lists it as “Bangkok General Hospital”. |
| Bangkok Hospital (brand) | The hospital’s own site counts 25+ hospitals across Thailand under this brand. Branches include Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and others. |
| BDMS | Bangkok Dusit Medical Services, the company: founded in 1969 by Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth and listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand under the symbol BDMS. |
| “Bangkok Dusit Hospital” | Not a separate hospital. It is a common blend of the BDMS company name and the hospital name. |
BDMS describes itself as Thailand’s largest private hospital group. Its August 2026 investor sheet reports 60 hospitals and more than 9,300 beds. Counts differ between documents and dates (a December 2025 presentation shows 31 hospitals under the Bangkok Hospital brand, the hospital’s own site says 25+), so treat any single number as approximate.
Bumrungrad, the other well-known international hospital in Bangkok, is not part of BDMS. Read the Bumrungrad guide if you are comparing the two.
Which hospitals does BDMS own?
BDMS runs several brands, aimed at different patients:
For branch detail, see our guides to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya and Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai.
- Bangkok Hospital: the largest brand, with the headquarters in Bangkok and regional hospitals in other cities.
- Samitivej: a separate brand within BDMS. A December 2025 investor presentation counts 7 hospitals and 1,418 beds.
- Phyathai: 8 hospitals and 1,693 beds in the same presentation.
- Paolo: another BDMS hospital brand.
- BNH Hospital: a boutique central Bangkok hospital listed in the BDMS network.
- Royal: another brand listed in BDMS material.
One practical point: because they share an owner, a record or referral can sometimes move inside the group, but never assume it. Ask each hospital in writing whether it can see your file from another BDMS hospital.
What is BNH Hospital, and why do people search “Bonnie hospital”?
BNH is the old Bangkok Nursing Home, founded in 1898 to serve expatriates living in Siam. Its modern complex opened in 1996 under the name BNH Hospital, positioned as a “boutique international hospital”. It is JCI accredited and listed in the BDMS network. Searches for “bonnie hospital bangkok” usually mean this hospital.

BNH is not the headquarters of Bangkok Hospital. If you were told to go to “BDMS” or “Bangkok Hospital” and ended up at the BNH building on Convent Road, you are at a sister hospital, not the flagship.
What does the Bangkok Hospital headquarters offer foreigners?
The hospital’s own pages describe a dedicated International Service Center with interpretation in 20+ languages, including Thai, English, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, German, Indonesian, Khmer, Burmese, Vietnamese and Russian. A 24-hour local hotline is listed as 1719, or +66-2-310-3000.
The campus is built around specialist hospitals on one site:
- Bangkok Heart Hospital
- Wattanosoth Cancer Hospital
- Bangkok Bone & Brain Hospital
- A Robotic Surgery Center and a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center
- BASEM, described as a FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence for sports medicine
The hospital states it is JCI accredited for the sixth consecutive cycle, plus Thailand’s HA accreditation, and holds JCI clinical care program certifications for stroke, acute coronary syndrome, lung cancer and orthogeriatric care. What accreditation does and does not tell you is covered in JCI vs private vs public hospitals.

English and interpreters
English is on the hospital’s interpretation list, and the International Service Center is the department to contact first. Ask which doctor you will see and whether an interpreter will be in the consultation, not only at reception.
Emergency care, pharmacy and hours
The hospital’s pages describe the 1719 hotline as 24-hour, and branch pages for other Bangkok Hospital locations say their trauma and emergency centres run around the clock. Confirm emergency, pharmacy and outpatient hours for the headquarters by phone before you go. For a real emergency, call the hotline or 1669. Routine over-the-counter needs are often cheaper at a street pharmacy: see OTC pharmacy medicine in Bangkok.
Foreign patients may be asked for a passport and a deposit before admission. Ask what deposit applies to your case, in writing, before admission.

How much is a check-up at Bangkok Hospital?
A single price for “a visit” does not exist: consultation, tests, room and drugs are billed separately. The dated headquarters price to anchor on is the Ultimate Health Check-Up, checked on 9 October 2026 and listed as valid through 31 December 2026.
| Package (headquarters) | Sale price | Normal price |
|---|---|---|
| Ultimate Health Check-Up, men | THB 40,000 (~$1,180) | THB 84,075 (~$2,470) |
| Ultimate Health Check-Up, women | THB 43,000 (~$1,260) | THB 95,968 (~$2,820) |
Dollar figures use about 34 baht to the dollar and are approximate. The hospital says the price includes the doctor’s fee.
The package covers a physical exam, eye and hearing screening, blood and urine tests, liver, kidney, thyroid and hepatitis panels, tumour markers, chest X-ray, abdominal ultrasound, bone density, heart screening (EKG, echocardiogram, carotid duplex, ABI), vitamin D and B12, a written report and a food coupon. Men’s packages add PSA and testosterone. Women’s add a Pap smear with pelvic exam, CA 125 and CA 153 tumour markers, a mammogram with breast ultrasound and estradiol.

Booking: at least one day ahead through the International Medical Services Center on +66-2-310-3256 or +66-2-755-1256 (7:00 to 16:00), by LINE (@bangkokhospital) or on +66-2-310-3000. Fast for 8 to 10 hours before testing.
Regional branches run cheaper promotions. A Pakchong branch listing in 2026 showed an executive check-up for men at THB 11,000 ($325) and for women at THB 13,000 ($380), valid until 15 January 2027. That is a different, smaller package at a different hospital, so do not compare the two headline prices directly. For how to compare check-ups across hospitals, see executive health check-up packages.
Does Bangkok Hospital do cosmetic surgery, and is Asia Cosmetic Hospital part of it?
Ask the hospital which cosmetic and plastic procedures it performs and which surgeon is accredited for them. Asia Cosmetic Hospital, described in listings as founded in 2012 and focused on cosmetic and bariatric surgery, is not one of the BDMS brands listed above. Do not assume a shared owner, shared standards or shared records because the names look similar. Ask each hospital for its own accreditation, the surgeon’s licence number and the written price, and read an independent review source, not only the hospital’s own testimonials.
For any elective surgery, the same rule applies: a clear written quote, a named surgeon, a stated recovery period and a plan for complications. The method in choosing a hospital works for any of them.
Is Bangkok Hospital the right choice for you?
It tends to fit when:
- you need a heart, cancer, bone, joint or brain specialist and want them on one campus;
- you want interpretation support in a language other than English;
- you want a large package check-up with a written report;
- you have BDMS-linked insurance or plan to pay the hospital directly (ask which insurers it accepts).
It tends to fit less well when:
- the problem is minor, such as a cold or a repeat prescription. A clinic or a telemedicine visit may cost far less;
- you only need paperwork. See medical certificates in Bangkok for what a clinic can issue;
- you prefer a smaller, central setting, where BNH or another hospital may be easier to reach.
The headquarters is on New Petchburi Road in Huai Khwang. Ask the International Service Center for directions and travel time before an early appointment.

How do you prepare for a visit?
- Phone or LINE the International Service Center and state your condition, language and the date.
- Ask for the price in writing: consultation, tests, procedure, room and drugs are billed separately.
- Bring your passport, insurance card and any records or imaging from home.
- Confirm any deposit and how insurance direct billing works before admission.
- Ask for a written summary and invoice at discharge, for your insurer and your home doctor.
