Phuket has two hospitals that carry the Bangkok Hospital name: Bangkok Hospital Phuket, and Bangkok Hospital Siriroj, which locals still call Phuket International Hospital. Both belong to BDMS (Bangkok Dusit Medical Services), the company behind the Bangkok Hospital brand, and both are listed as JCI accredited. For a Bangkok resident flying down for a weekend, the practical split is simple: Bangkok Hospital Phuket is the larger one, with a long list of specialist centres, and Siriroj is a smaller hospital (per a hospital directory) with its own emergency department and plastic surgery institute. Seven walk-in Bangkok Phuket Clinic branches (including Laguna) cover minor problems closer to the beaches.

Are Bangkok Hospital Phuket and Bangkok Hospital Siriroj the same hospital?

No. They are two separate hospitals with separate addresses and phone numbers, both run by BDMS under the Bangkok Hospital name. If you read the Bangkok Hospital and BDMS guide, you will recognise the pattern: one owner, several hospitals, and a name that means different things depending on where you are standing.

Which Bangkok Hospital in Phuket is the right choice?

A Phuket hospital directory calls Bangkok Hospital Phuket the island’s largest private hospital and the usual choice for serious cases. Siriroj is described as a smaller facility with slightly lower prices and, in reviews, shorter waits. Both descriptions come from a third-party directory, not from the hospitals, so use them as a rough orientation rather than a promise.

Choose Bangkok Hospital Phuket when:

  • you need a specialist: its centre list includes cardiology, spine, colorectal, cancer, neurology, orthopaedics, eye, ENT and mental health;
  • you need a dedicated international patient team, interpreters or insurance paperwork handled for you;
  • you need an ambulance transfer or an intensive care unit.

Siriroj can fit when:

  • the problem is moderate and you want a smaller building;
  • you need hyperbaric medicine after a diving incident;
  • you are planning a cosmetic or reconstructive consultation at its Phuket Plastic Surgery Institute (for any elective surgery, the method in choosing a hospital applies: written quote, named surgeon, recovery plan).

For a broken bone, chest pain or anything frightening, do not spend time comparing. Call 1669 and go where the ambulance takes you. The directory says public Patong Hospital can stabilise a patient before transfer and that serious cases from Patong are usually transferred on to Bangkok Hospital Phuket or Vachira.

Where is Bangkok Hospital Phuket, and how far is it from Patong?

Neither hospital is at the beaches. The phuket101.net directory (9 October 2026) puts Bangkok Hospital Phuket in Phuket Town, about 30 minutes from Patong or Kata, and Siriroj about 25 minutes from Patong and 35 minutes from Kata; confirm travel times and the address with the hospital. Siriroj’s own page places it just outside Phuket Town on Highway 402, between Central Festival, Big C and Tesco Lotus. Phuket International Airport is about 30 km north of Siriroj.

From Bangkok, a flight to Phuket takes about 1 hour, so a same-day return for a specialist consultation is possible but easy to underestimate once airport transfers and waiting times are added. If you are staying in Patong, the directory lists the public Patong Hospital on Sai Nam Yen Road, about 5 minutes from Bangla Road and open 24 hours. It is not part of BDMS; the directory says English-speaking staff are limited and specialist clinics run Monday to Friday only. The same directory says Bangkok Hospital Phuket runs a smaller clinic in Patong for minor issues; confirm with the hospital that it exists and ask for its address and hours before you rely on it.

What services does Bangkok Hospital Phuket offer?

The hospital’s own pages describe a multi-specialty private hospital with JCI accreditation from the USA and HQIA accreditation from Thailand. Its specialty list covers dental, cosmetic surgery, internal medicine, orthopaedics, paediatrics, cardiology, emergency and trauma, ENT, obstetrics and gynaecology, neurosurgery, nephrology, psychiatry and ophthalmology.

Its internal phone directory names many dedicated centres, which gives a sense of the depth:

  • Heart Center
  • Spine Academy, and a Sports Medicine center
  • Phuket Cancer Institute
  • Colorectal Disease Institute
  • Fertility Center (IVF)
  • Diving Medicine Center
  • Mental Health Center
  • Hemodialysis, including a Holiday Dialysis Center
  • Emergency and Trauma Center, intensive care unit, radiology and rehabilitation

The hospital’s awards page lists JCI 2025, an HA certificate from 2023, and a CAMTS Global reaccreditation of its emergency medical transport for 2025 to 2028. What these labels mean for you is covered in JCI vs private vs public hospitals.

Siriroj describes 30-plus specialties, including 24-hour emergency and trauma services, intensive care, 3D laparoscopic surgery, family medicine, dermatology and wellness. Its building has six floors, a women’s health centre, a children’s department, a dental centre, a hemodialysis centre and indoor parking for 150 cars.

How do you reach Bangkok Hospital Phuket in an emergency?

Call 1669, the national ambulance line, which runs 24 hours. The Phuket hospital lists 1719 as a contact number on its site, marked for local calls only. For the hospital itself, dial the main number +66 (0) 7625 4425 and ask for the Emergency and Trauma Center (extensions 1060, 1061 and 1062 in the hospital’s own directory) or the ambulance service (extensions 1036 and 1136).

A directory also notes that the hospital can arrange medical evacuation. The hospital’s awards page lists a CAMTS Global reaccreditation of its emergency medical transport, so ask what is covered by your insurer before anyone books a transfer.

For Siriroj, the hospital’s main number is +66 76 361 888 and the hospital describes a 24-hour emergency and trauma service. The Tourist Police line is 1155, 24 hours, if the emergency involves a theft, an accident report or a language problem.

A short checklist if you are the one calling:

  1. Say where you are, in Thai if possible, or hand the phone to someone at your hotel.
  2. State the problem in one sentence and whether the patient is breathing and conscious.
  3. Ask which hospital the ambulance will use and whether your insurer will cover it.
  4. Bring your passport and insurance card. Ask the hospital about any deposit.

The general rules for a medical emergency in Thailand are in what to do in a medical emergency in Bangkok, and most of it applies in Phuket too.

Can foreigners get interpreters and insurance direct billing?

Bangkok Hospital Phuket offers free daily professional interpreter services in nine language groups: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Scandinavian (Swedish, Danish, Norwegian) and Spanish. Companions can ask for an interpreter too. The hospital’s other pages say its multilingual coordinators speak more than a dozen languages. Ask the international team which language support your appointment will have.

Its International Patient Team handles:

  • embassy communication and visa extension documents, depending on your clinical condition;
  • appointments and specialist coordination;
  • travel and housing logistics for patients and families;
  • insurance and financial coordination: direct billing, guarantees of payment and deposits;
  • ground ambulance or private limousine transfers from Phuket airport, subject to insurance arrangements.

Accepted payments are Thai baht cash, major credit cards, Apple Pay and wire transfer.

Direct billing depends on your insurer. The hospital tells patients to check whether their insurer has a direct billing agreement with the hospital, and says the partner list can change without notice. The International Insurance Department can be reached on +66 7625 4425, +66 7636 1000 or +66 7665 5000, or at bpk.interinsurance@bangkokhospital.com. A Phuket directory adds that most travel insurers work directly with the hospital and advises keeping every receipt for claims.

Before you travel, read insurance vs cash for treatment and health insurance for expats. Bangkok residents with a local policy should ask the insurer, in writing, whether Phuket hospitals are covered the same as Bangkok ones.

What are the Bangkok Phuket Clinics, and is there one in Laguna?

Bangkok Phuket Clinic is a network of walk-in neighbourhood clinics that runs under the Bangkok Hospital network standards in Phuket. Services are consultation, diagnosis and treatment, injections, wound care, blood tests and medical certificates. For an emergency, use a hospital or call 1669.

The clinic pages list seven branches, all open daily:

Branch Hours Phone
Maikhao 09:00 to 18:00 096 643 4631
Laguna 09:00 to 18:00 061 172 2550
Airport 08:00 to 20:00 094 051 6841
Rawai 08:00 to 20:00 080 272 2622
Kamala 09:00 to 20:00 093 576 7070
Khaolak 08:00 to 20:00 061 001 9659
Srisunthon 08:00 to 20:00 064 915 7992

Bangkok Phuket Clinic Laguna is the branch for the Laguna area. The clinic network’s general contact line is 1719. No branch is listed as open past 20:00, so a late-night problem goes to a hospital emergency department. For the longer picture on small-clinic visits versus hospitals, see telemedicine vs clinic in Bangkok and OTC pharmacy medicine in Bangkok.

How much does it cost?

A single price for a hospital visit does not exist: consultation, tests, room and drugs are billed separately, so ask each hospital for a written quote.

The clinic package page posts these prices, valid until 31 December 2026 and checked on 9 October 2026 (confirm with the clinic):

Clinic package Price Notes
Health check-up THB 1,499 (~$44) Ask the clinic what it includes
Rabies prevention vaccine THB 999 (~$29) Ask the clinic what it includes
Diarrhoea treatment THB 1,500 to 2,900 (~$44 to $85) Price is a range; ask the clinic

The packages are offered at six branches: Maikhao, Airport, Laguna, Rawai, Kamala and Khaolak. Dollar figures use about 34 baht to the dollar and are approximate. The hospital also sells health screening packages; for how to compare them, see executive health check-up packages and, for Bangkok-side prices, Bangkok Hospital check-up packages and prices.

What if you live in Bangkok and need Phuket care?

The practical differences from a Bangkok visit are small, but worth planning:

  • Records. Ask each hospital in writing whether it can see your Bangkok records, and carry copies of imaging and discharge letters.
  • Deposits and billing. Ask the international insurance department what deposit applies and whether your insurer will issue a guarantee of payment before you arrive.
  • Travel after surgery. Ask your surgeon when it is safe to fly back to Bangkok.
  • Hotline. The Bangkok Hospital hotline 1719 is listed for local calls only. The Bangkok headquarters details are in the Bangkok Hospital guide.

How do you prepare for a visit?

  1. Phone the hospital’s international team and state your condition, language and date.
  2. Ask for the price in writing: consultation, tests, procedure, room and drugs are billed separately.
  3. Bring your passport, insurance card and any records or imaging from home.
  4. Confirm direct billing and any deposit with the International Insurance Department before admission.
  5. Ask for a written summary and invoice at discharge, for your insurer and your Bangkok doctor.
