What is BNH Hospital, and who runs it?

BNH stands for Bangkok Nursing Home. According to Wikipedia, British residents of Bangkok met at the British Legation in 1897 to propose a hospital for foreigners, King Chulalongkorn backed it as a non-profit, and the first nurses arrived in 1898. The Convent Road land was bought in 1901. A new building opened on 14 February 1996 and the hospital was later renamed BNH Hospital. The hospital’s own site describes itself as the first international private hospital in Siam, and the operating company is named as BNH Medical Centre Ltd.

BDMS, the large hospital group, lists BNH in its network. It is not the Bangkok Hospital headquarters. The Bangkok Hospital and BDMS guide explains how the names fit together.

Does BNH Hospital have English-speaking staff?

CanCham Thailand says customer service offers multilingual interpretation and helps with insurance and visa-extension paperwork. Confirm this with the hospital. Ask for an interpreter by language when you book, and confirm that the consultation itself, not only reception, will be covered.

How to book a check-up

  • Line: @BNHhospital, or phone 02-022-2847 or 02-022-0700 ext. 4445 to 4447.
  • Phone hours for check-up bookings are 13:00 to 15:00.
  • Make the appointment at least 2 days ahead. Changes also need 2 days’ notice.

Is BNH Hospital expensive?

Price depends on what you need, so no single figure answers it. The check-up range above is wide, from THB 10,900 to THB 77,900. Ask for a written estimate for the exact treatment and compare it with at least one other hospital. The guide to choosing a hospital lists the questions to ask each one.

What about the dental centre?

BNH has a Dental Centre. The hospital’s page names Dr. Nusara Siritantikorn, a general dentist, as its Head of the Dental Centre. Call +66 2 022 0700, say what you need (a check-up, a filling, a crown, orthodontics) and ask for a written quote and the dentist’s name before you go. For how dental costs and options compare across the city, see dental treatment in Bangkok.

Does BNH Hospital accept insurance?

The hospital’s site has a local-insurance direct-billing page and a separate international-insurance page. Ask which insurers have direct billing, whether your policy needs pre-approval, and what deposit or guarantee letter applies. See health insurance for expats for what to check in your own plan.

Is BNH Hospital accredited?

CanCham Thailand describes BNH as a JCI-accredited international hospital; confirm this with the hospital. The Bangkok Hospital guide lists it the same way. Accreditation is time-limited, so check the current status in the JCI directory. JCI vs private vs public hospitals explains what the badge does and does not tell you.

Is BNH Hospital right for you?

It tends to fit when:

  • you live or work around Silom or Sala Daeng and want a hospital close by;
  • you want women’s health, spine, orthopaedic or dental care under one roof;
  • you want interpretation support (confirm it with the hospital) in a central setting.

It tends to fit less well when the problem is minor and a clinic or telemedicine visit will do.

How do you prepare for a visit?

  1. Phone or message the hospital and state your condition, language and preferred date.
  2. Ask for the price in writing, with what is included.
  3. Bring your passport, insurance card and records or imaging from home.
  4. Confirm any deposit and how direct billing works before admission.
  5. Ask for a written summary and invoice at discharge, for your insurer and your home doctor.
