Essentials
Amara Bangkok is a 250-room hotel at 180/1 Surawong Road in Bang Rak. According to the hotel’s website, Chong Nonsi BTS is about 9 minutes away on foot and Sam Yan MRT about 12.
Surawong Road runs parallel to Silom Road and Sathon Road, so the hotel sits one block off the busiest traffic but still in walking range of both train lines. Two stations at similar distances means you can pick the one with the better exit for the day, and a taxi is a short ride when the heat or rain decides otherwise.
Overview
The rooms come in Deluxe (including Deluxe Twin), Executive, Club, Club Cabana-Jacuzzi and Club10 categories. Club Cabana-Jacuzzi rooms have direct access to two outdoor jacuzzis, and the Club categories include access to a lounge. Connecting rooms exist in the Deluxe, Executive and Club categories, which helps when two generations share a stay.
Wheelchair-accessible guest rooms have accessible bathrooms and 92 cm-wide doorways, according to the hotel’s FAQ page. The lobby has an accessible bathroom, and there are two accessible parking spaces on the ground floor behind the hotel, with a marked pick-up and drop-off area. Laundry is handled by the hotel for a charge: fill in the form left in the room and call reception from the room phone.
Compared with the other Silom and Sathorn mid-range hotels in our Silom and Sathorn hotel guide, Amara trades a single close station for two walks of about 10 minutes, and adds a pool and a rooftop bar.
Tip: Chong Nonsi is the shorter walk and the one for the BTS. Sam Yan is the one for the MRT, so check which line your day needs before you set off in the heat.
Food and drink
Element
Element is the all-day restaurant, serving Thai and Western dishes, with indoor seating and an al fresco area. It is the place for breakfast, which the hotel serves daily, and the hotel suggests coming earlier in the morning for a quieter room.
AkaAza Bar
AkaAza is the rooftop bar, with city views. It suits an early evening drink after the pool closes rather than a full dinner. The Barista, a café on the property, serves coffee, pastries and cakes for a quieter afternoon break.
Amenities
The infinity pool is 1.3 m deep and has a children’s pool beside it. The hotel’s FAQ notes there are no showers or lockers at the pool, so go up already changed. The Sky Gym is on the 22nd floor, open 24 hours with a room key card.
For airport transfers, the hotel lists private limousine transfers to Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK), booked at least 72 hours ahead. The road trip to either airport takes about 60 minutes depending on traffic. In-room dining is available, and baby cots are provided on request at no extra charge.

Where to stay
Pick the area before the hotel
Traffic and heat make Bangkok distances feel longer than they look on a map, so the area shapes a trip more than the hotel does. Our guides match areas to trip types and explain the trade-offs.
