Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse

Silom and Sathorn

Five-star Marriott opened in 2018 in a 32-floor building, with an infinity pool and Quan Spa. A van runs to Sala Daeng, about 15 minutes on foot.

  • 303 rooms, suites and residential suites
  • Infinity pool and kids' pool on the 18th floor
  • Quan Spa and a complimentary fitness centre
  • Yao Cantonese and Shanghainese on the 32nd floor
  • Sala Daeng BTS about 15 minutes on foot

Essentials

Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse is a high-rise at 262 Surawong Road in Bang Rak, with 303 rooms and residential apartments: 196 rooms and suites plus 107 residential suites, according to Marriott’s website. The nearest BTS is Sala Daeng, about 15 minutes away on foot.

That walk is the main trade-off. Surawong Road is a main road, and in the heat most guests will take a taxi or ride-hailing car for the train link and use the hotel itself for the pool, the spa and the restaurants. The hotel makes more sense as a base for a stay built around the building than around the station.

Overview

Rooms run from King Deluxe and Double/Double Deluxe rooms through one-bedroom Capital apartments to two- and three-bedroom residential suites, with a Vice Presidential Suite (127 sqm) and a Presidential Suite (355 sqm) at the top. Sizes for the standard rooms are given only as approximate on Marriott’s site. The apartments, with their separate living areas, are the ones to look at for a stay of a week or more.

The hotel has an M Club executive lounge on the 31st floor, open to Marriott Bonvoy members with lounge access and to guests who upgrade their room. Families are catered for too: the 18th floor holds a kids’ club and a children’s pool area next to the main pool.

In our Silom and Sathorn hotel guide, the Surawongse sits at the top of the range, a step up in finish from the other hotels around Sala Daeng and Chong Nonsi, and a longer walk from the train than any of them.

Tip: Plan the return from Sala Daeng by taxi after dark or in the midday heat, and ask the front desk about a transfer to the station when you check in.

Food and drink

Praya Kitchen

Praya Kitchen is the buffet-focused restaurant, with a Thai emphasis and interactive kitchens. It is the natural choice for breakfast and for a relaxed family dinner with a range of choices.

Kissuisen

Kissuisen is the Japanese restaurant, laid out over several levels with an izakaya, a private room, teppanyaki, omakase and a sake bar. It suits an evening out when the dining is the plan.

Yao Restaurant

Yao serves Cantonese and Shanghainese dishes on the 32nd floor, with dim sum and five private dining rooms. Upstairs, Yao Rooftop Bar is an open-air bar with city views. The Lobby Lounge is a casual bar for meeting people, and the Pool Bar on the 18th floor sits beside the infinity pool.

Amenities

The outdoor infinity pool is on the 18th floor, reserved for hotel guests, with a kids’ pool area. The fitness centre is free for guests and has treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes, rowing machines and free weights. Quan Spa on site offers signature treatments and hydrotherapy.

Residential suites make longer stays easier, since they add separate living space to the bedroom. The pool, kids’ club and pool bar share the 18th floor, so one lift ride from the room covers most of the leisure facilities.

Where to stay

Pick the area before the hotel

Traffic and heat make Bangkok distances feel longer than they look on a map, so the area shapes a trip more than the hotel does. Our guides match areas to trip types and explain the trade-offs.
