Essentials

Ascott Embassy Sathorn Bangkok is a serviced-apartment tower at 59 South Sathorn Road with 393 residences, from hotel-style Deluxe rooms to three-bedroom apartments. It is aimed at stays of a week or more: every apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, and selected residences have a washer and dryer.

Two stations are about 10 minutes away on foot, according to the operator’s website: Chong Nonsi BTS from Exit 5 and Sala Daeng BTS from Exit 2. For days when 10 minutes in the heat is too much, the property runs a complimentary shuttle to Chong Nonsi, Sala Daeng and Lumphini stations.

Overview

The Deluxe Hotel Room is 35 sqm, an open-concept room without apartment layout. Studio Executive is 50 sqm with one king bed, a work desk, a sofa, a bathroom with a separate shower and bathtub, a kitchen with refrigerator, kettle, toaster and coffee machine, and a washing machine and dryer. The One-Bedroom Premier is 65 sqm, the Two-Bedroom units are 100 sqm and the Three-Bedroom units are 150 and 165 sqm.

For a month in Bangkok, the studio is the sensible start: laundry and cooking happen in your own space, which cuts the number of trips out in the heat. Two-bedroom units suit two couples travelling together or a family who want separate bedrooms.

The tower sits among the serviced options in our guide to serviced apartment hotels, and is the pick there for three to four weeks with in-unit laundry. The Deluxe Hotel Room is the format for a short stay without the kitchen.

Tip: Check which units have the washer-dryer when you book, since only selected residences include one, and confirm it before arrival if laundry matters to you.

Food and drink

Xingu Chinese Cuisine

Xingu is a modern oriental restaurant on level 37 with panoramic views over the city. It is also where breakfast is served for guests. The elevated setting suits a special-occasion dinner more than a weeknight meal, and the building also has a bar and lounge and room service.

With a kitchen in every apartment, many guests will cook breakfast and eat out in the neighbourhood.

Amenities

The infinity pool is on level 9 together with the Residence Lounge, with a jacuzzi and a children’s wading pool. The gym has an aerobics room for yoga and stretching, and the property lists steam and sauna rooms.

Family features include a children’s playroom and play area, babysitting and baby cribs. Daily housekeeping, laundry and dry cleaning, 24-hour reception, in-room massage on request and limousine and airport transfer services are also available. The property has ramp access at the entrance, accessible rooms in the Deluxe and Studio Executive types, and accessible restrooms in the public areas.

Where to stay

Pick the area before the hotel

Traffic and heat make Bangkok distances feel longer than they look on a map, so the area shapes a trip more than the hotel does. Our guides match areas to trip types and explain the trade-offs.
