Essentials

Silom Serene is a boutique hotel at 7 Soi Pipat, better known as Silom Soi 3, off Silom Road. Sala Daeng BTS is about 6 minutes away on foot, and Chong Nonsi BTS is about 10 minutes away. Sala Daeng is also the interchange for MRT Silom, so both train systems are within a short walk.

The hotel sits on a side street, a step back from the main road. Thaniya Plaza is about 3 minutes on foot, Silom Complex and the King Power Mahanakhon tower about 5 minutes each, and Lumphini Park about 10 minutes.

Overview

This is a small hotel, and its value is its position. Most days can start and end on foot: a stroll to the park in the cooler morning, lunch and shopping at Silom Complex, then back off the main road in the evening. The walks are short enough to do in the heat if you pace them, and a taxi is an easy fallback.

It has an outdoor pool and a restaurant, but the choice of facilities is narrower than at the big towers of Silom and Sathorn, so it suits a visit where you plan to be out for most of the day. Compared with the larger hotels in our Silom and Sathorn hotel guide, it is the one for short stays where walking to the mall and Lumphini Park matters more than a big pool or lounge.

Tip: Sala Daeng has a sky bridge to Silom Complex, so on a hot or wet day you can reach the mall from the station without crossing a road at street level.

Food and drink

The hotel has its own restaurant, which makes breakfast and a simple dinner possible without going out. Beyond that, the surrounding streets do the work: Silom Complex has restaurants on its fourth floor, and the Silom side streets around Soi 3 offer plenty of places to eat within a few minutes’ walk.

Amenities

The hotel has an outdoor pool and a fitness centre alongside the restaurant. This is a boutique property rather than a resort, so the pool is a place to cool off after a day on foot rather than a reason to stay in.

Longer stays work best if you use the area around the hotel as your living room: Silom Complex has a Central department store with a Tops supermarket in the basement, plus Muji and Daiso, all within about 5 minutes on foot.

Where to stay

Pick the area before the hotel

Traffic and heat make Bangkok distances feel longer than they look on a map, so the area shapes a trip more than the hotel does. Our guides match areas to trip types and explain the trade-offs.
