Praram 9 Hospital is a private, JCI-accredited hospital at 99 Rama IX Road in Huai Khwang, in the middle of Bangkok’s new business district. It has 204 registered beds, a large kidney transplant programme, a cardiovascular institute, a spine center and an interpreter team that works daily from 7:00 to 17:00. Its inpatient rooms start at 10,000 THB (~295 USD) a day. This guide covers how to reach the hospital from the MRT and the airport, what it is known for, what rooms cost, how foreign patients are handled, and how it compares with Piyavate Hospital a short distance away. Details were checked on 9 October 2026.

What kind of hospital is Praram 9?

Praram 9 Hospital is a general private hospital with several specialist institutes under one roof. The founders acquired a company in 1989 and renamed it Praram 9 Hospital, and the hospital was established in 1992 on a 6-rai plot on Rama IX Road, with 160 licensed beds. It became a public company and listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 2018. The hospital’s own history page says it has been caring for patients for about 33 years.

Today it reports 204 registered beds, 20 specialized medical centers, and two named institutes: the Kidney Disease and Transplantation Institute and the Praram 9 Cardiovascular Institute. The hospital’s site also lists an Advanced Spine Center, a Mind Center, and surgery, medicine and obstetrics and gynecology centers. A Traditional Chinese Medicine Center is among its centers. Its Fix & Fit institute covers pain management and wellness.

Piyavate, covered below, is another hospital in the same district.

How do you get to Praram 9 Hospital?

The hospital’s address is 99 Rama IX Road, Bang Kapi, Huai Khwang, Bangkok 10310. The hospital names Phetchaburi MRT station as the stop to use.

From What the hospital says
MRT Blue Line Get off at Phetchaburi (BL21), Exit 1. About 15 minutes on foot, or take the free shuttle van
Shuttle van Free, waits on the road in front of Phetchaburi Exit 1, departs every hour
Airport Rail Link Get off at Makkasan, then take the hospital’s free shuttle bus
BTS Get off at Asok, then take a taxi via Rama 9 Road
Car Si Rat Expressway to the Rama 9 exit, then the hospital alley is on your left

Phetchaburi station opened on 3 July 2004. Its Exits 1 to 3 are on the B1 basement level next to an underground mall, and a covered elevated footpath links it to Makkasan on the Airport Rail Link. The two systems do not share fares or tickets, so expect to pay a separate fare for each.

Because the shuttle leaves once an hour, plan your arrival around it or budget the walk. Shuttle times are set by the hospital and can change, so check its timetable on praram9.com before a morning appointment.

Is Praram 9 Hospital JCI accredited?

Yes. The hospital says it has held Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation since 2010, and its investor page lists renewals in 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2022 (7th edition). The Kidney Disease and Transplant Institute also holds a separate JCI certification for kidney transplantation. Our guide to hospital types in Bangkok explains what each tier means for patients. If accreditation matters to your insurer, ask the hospital for the current certificate.

What is Praram 9 known for?

The hospital’s strongest public claim is kidney transplantation. Its history page says the Kidney Disease and Transplant Institute has performed more than 1,000 kidney transplants and describes it as the top private hospital in Thailand for this procedure. That is the hospital’s own description, so treat it as a claim and not an independent ranking.

Other points on its own pages:

  • Imaging: it says it was the first private hospital with a 64-slice CT scanner (2005) and the first with a 640-slice CT scanner (2017). It also lists first-in-Thailand claims for 4D ultrasound and laparoscopic surgery.
  • Two buildings: Building A holds the outpatient department, inpatient floors and a Learning Center on the 8th floor. Building B, the Praram 9 Medical Center, opened in 2020.
  • Facilities: convenience stores, coffee shops and restaurants are listed on site.

Someone with a kidney, heart or spine problem, or who wants a general hospital with JCI accreditation in the Rama 9 area, has reasons to shortlist it. Someone who needs fertility treatment or LASIK, which Piyavate lists as centers, should compare both hospitals.

How much do rooms cost at Praram 9 Hospital?

The hospital publishes daily inpatient room rates in baht. Rates were checked on 9 October 2026; USD figures use one rate, about 34 THB per USD.

Room Per day (THB) ~USD
Private 10,000 ~295
Deluxe 11,000 ~325
Executive Deluxe 17,500 ~515
Premium Executive Deluxe 22,500 ~660
Suite 26,500 ~780
Deluxe (Building B) 12,000 ~355
Executive Deluxe (Building B) 19,000 ~560
Suite (Building B) 36,000 ~1,060

Room rates are only one line of a hospital bill. Doctor fees, medication, tests, theatre time and procedures are billed separately, so a room rate cannot predict your total. For any planned treatment, ask for an itemised written estimate and compare it with a second hospital. Health packages are listed on praram9.com; request the current price list in writing before you book, since promotional prices are time-limited.

How does Praram 9 handle foreign patients?

The hospital runs an international patient service with translators for English, Mandarin, Burmese, Khmer, Japanese and Arabic. They support the whole journey, from before arrival to after discharge, and work every day from 7:00 to 17:00. Plan appointments around the interpreter hours.

Which insurers does Praram 9 list?

The hospital lists many international insurers and assistance companies as partners, among them Cigna, Allianz Worldwide Care, International SOS, AIG General, BlueCross BlueShield, UnitedHealth International, MSH International, Tokio Marine & Nichido and Europ Assistance. A name on this list does not tell you whether your own policy pays the hospital directly or whether you pay first and claim back. Confirm direct billing before an admission: phone your insurer and ask for a guarantee of payment, then confirm with the hospital’s international desk. Our guides on insurance versus cash and health insurance for expats cover how to weigh the options.

Praram 9 or Piyavate: how do they differ?

Both hospitals are in Bang Kapi, Huai Khwang. Piyavate Hospital is at 998 Rim Khlong Samsen Road (Rama 9), is part of the Bangpakok Hospital Group, and lists JCI and HA accreditation.

Praram 9 Hospital Piyavate Hospital
Address 99 Rama IX Road 998 Rim Khlong Samsen Road (Rama 9)
Accreditation named by hospital JCI since 2010 JCI and HA
Named strengths Kidney transplant, cardiovascular, spine, mind 20 centers incl. heart, fertility, LASIK, dental, dialysis, cancer and radiation therapy
Hotline 1270 1489

The practical difference is the service you need. Compare Praram 9’s kidney and transplant programme with Piyavate’s listed fertility, eye and cancer centers, and book a consultation at whichever matches your condition. Where both offer a service, get written quotes from both. If you are still deciding between tiers, start with how to choose a hospital, then see mid-size private hospitals compared and the Bumrungrad guide for the larger international option.

Is the Rama 9 area a good base for a hospital stay?

The hospital sits in what its own pages call Bangkok’s central new business district. If you are weighing neighbourhoods as a long-term base, our comparison of Rama 9 and Ratchada condo areas sets the two areas side by side.

What should you bring and ask before a first visit?

  1. Passport or residence documents and your insurance card or policy number.
  2. Reports and test results. Bring earlier reports and lab results, and ask the international desk how to send them in advance.
  3. Interpreter booking. Ask for your language and the time of your appointment, since the team works 7:00 to 17:00.
  4. Written estimate. Ask what is included and what is billed separately.
  5. Transport plan. Decide between the hourly shuttle from Phetchaburi Exit 1, the walk of about 15 minutes, or a taxi.
